Clearing Paper Jams
  1. Locate the jam. Remove paper tray, toner cartridge and open the back door (if applicable).
  2. After locating the jammed paper, grasp both sides, if possible, and pull the paper evenly out of the machine. *VERY IMPORTANT* Always pull the paper forward (in the direction that it would travel through the machine). Pulling the paper backwards can dislodge or break sensor flags and add to the cost of repair.
  3. NEVER use sharp or pointed instruments to dig out paper. This can damage the fuser or other critical parts, escalating costs.
  4. Check for small pieces of paper. Unbelievably small pieces of paper will cause further jams.
  5. Check for cause. Foreign objects (paper clips, staples, labels etc.).
  6. Take the paper out of the tray and fan the edges that will be picked up several times. This overlooked procedure causes the business world millions each year in down time and service calls!
  7. Check that the paper tray paper stop is in the proper position. If the paper can slide backwards, jams will occur!
  8. Re-install all removed components.
  9. Close all doors.
  10. Cross fingers
  11. PRAY!
